well, that really big drop was probably bad – I had AQ & BTN 3bet me, I called then check-shoved when flop came out with a Q. He’d hit a set of 9′s. Dumb move on my part really, I’d only be called by better…

Then it got worse & went on to lose 2 more buy-ins.

I was looking back over my HEM, and this time last year I was also almost busto & playing NL5 – in 2000 hands I’d won $90 in some crazy heater. 90% of my TP Q+kicker hands won. Today I lost 90% of my overpairs on the flop. It’s all just luck…

Yep, the session after writing that went a lot better, or it did until close to the end when I ran into sets three times quickly in a row and bought me down to just a buy-in up (better than -ve tho!).

At least one of those set hands was an AQ TPGK vs UTG, so possibly the lesson’s not completely learned yet.

because CO didnt have to VP$IP as fold didnt cost him any money and since BB didn’t raise him preflop he must have stronger hand. donking into preflop raiser is suboptimal(thats why it’s called “donk” bet) because with strong hand it’s better to c-r and if you donk and preflop raiser raises you, he represents much stronger range. also he can represnt much more by just calling donk bets IP.

and yea, recently im cbetting like a monkey because people keep folding to my cbets. i cbet 1/2 pot or even less but my cbet success is >33% so it’s not a big deal. my flop fold vs cbet is low and respectively flop agg% is high because obviously i don’t fold vs 1BB donk bets which are too frequent at these stakes

I’ve just realised a subtlety on the definition of a donk bet. I’d assumed if someone lead out OOP then that was a donk bet, but the definition really is that if they weren’t the preflop raiser and lead out. So if CO opens, you call on btn, and then preflop CO leads out it’s not a donk bet.

So it’s not a position thing, but an initiative thing. However why would the CO’s lead be better than a BB who called the btn’s raise? Something to do with a passive call followed by a pretence of strength maybe?
