Normality Resumed

So cash was way too swingy and husngs looked like a fantastic low variance easy climb up the ranks. Nothing could stop me.

Yeah right. I’ve managed to incorporate swings into husngs. It wasn’t easy, but I did it;

I’ve just lost 10 games in a row. The first 4 were $20s, and after seeing it fall away I switched back to $10s. It just kept on going. I’ve finally broken the streak with a single hand game where I sucked out to get 2pair on the river (yep, would have had a fairly crippled stack if that hadn’t happened).

One thing I’ve noticed though is that Full Tilt is easier than Pokerstars – even though PS has twice as many players there seem to be more newbs on FT husngs, plus the blind structure seems slower (well, seems slower, haven’t actually compared properly).

I think I’ll just piss around on rush poker for a bit just to have some low pressure donking – watch me throw a load more away

FML – down $30 in 50 hands! Ran into Kings and Aces left right and center. Why do I even bother…

Standstill Weekend

I played mainly $20 husngs this weekend and it was win some then lose some etc. I ended up $16 down which is pretty much the rake of all the games I played (shame it was Pokerstars – no rakeback silver lining this time).

I instantly think that I’ve hit my skill limits and should go back to $10s. What I should be thinking is that breakeven isn’t the same as losing – it’s just a hiccup. In fact if breakeven is what happens when you play/run bad, then I should be happy! How the f*k can I be thinking negatively when I’ve been running like this (2010 results so far);

(why isn’t HEM plotting the number of tournies at the bottom? That’s 150 tournaments there)

It’s not like the players were any different at $20s than they were at $10s. I’m still being my worst own enemy though – most of my losses have not been because I’ve been outplayed by aggressive super-regs, but because I bluffed too often and the other guy called me down with 3rd or 4th pair. Looking at the sharkscope charts of some of the guys that have beat me is truly embarassing.

Grim Day for Meteoric

Yesterday was a bad bad day.

Got into work and an hour later was trying not to vomit over my desk – I’m guess I’d put some bad milk into my morning coffee (ironically a colleague joked with me as I poured it saying, can’t be off, it’s still flowing). Bossman let me go home, but despite the perfect opportunity for pokerage I just didn’t feel like.

Meanwhile during that time S1ndr0me was feverishly grinding away – he had seen the unstoppable machine of my husngs create a real threat to his chances of winning our prop bet. 19:41 precisely I get the email proclaiming his victory. If only I’d played through my nauseous haze I could have won (holds arms to heavens and shouts WHYYYYYY????). Only kidding – S1ndr0me’s heater crushing of NL10 was extremely impressive as we can see on his blog. I’m just grateful that the husngs supplied the padding my roll needed to pay the bet. TBH I saw it coming, S1ndr0me’s been playing extremely well lately. He must be rolled for NL25 now, so hopefully we’ll see him take that on now.

I then had a little chat with Yegor about HU, and we decided to go on a play money HU cash table – cash games obviously being very different to SNG’s – higher stakes, plus easy to lose a ton. We (or I) wanted to see how we stood before joining the big boys.

He proceeded to either 3bet/4bet what seemed like every hand. Bluffs I tried to pull required at least 2 barrels, and frequently he called those down with 3rd or 4th pair to add to his already bloated stack. He raised everything, I hit nothing, and it became a bewildering mugging of bloody proportions.

Finally we stopped (um, he might have stopped out of boredom) with him standing with a 600bb stack. If it had been real money I’d have been royally decimated!

So, a grim day indeed, despite not putting a single real dollar on the table…

Bankroll Devastation

Ok, now I’m not so keen on Rush Poker.

This is the graph to date of playing RP;

Mostly in the black I guess, so I shouldn’t be too harsh on it. However the last session (last 600 hands) was a really depressing pit of despair. One of those times you hit nothing while all around you do, bullets and cowboys get no action and the hands that do get all-in action find themselves outgunned

The thing I hate the most though is my redline – I’ll admit I’m not one of those players who have a solid upwardly mobile graph, but when I am doing ok it’s usually red and blue in reasonable tandem. A few bad showdown failures are compensated by the non-showdown and it all looks nice and symmetrical. Today I realised constantly playing against unknowns on Rush Poker meant you couldn’t profitably punish the bluffers or extract from the calling stations. You either get good cards or you don’t.

I am wondering why my swings are so huge though. They’re all about 6 or 7 buy-ins – that’s not normal surely? People get worried when they have a 3 or 4 buy-in dive, over 8 is a downswing of death. Run of the mill for me it seems.

Unfortunately that last downswing has really taken it out of my bankroll – it now stands at a crappy $208. That’s less than a buy-in to the NL5 move down point! Rakeback ought to be about $50 from this rushing around though, but it won’t be in my account for another three weeks.

Oh well.

OTOH my blog’s doing well The big jump in the last week was because I broke the news about rush poker so quickly – Google sent me loads of people who were searching about the game. Wore off pretty quickly though…

Today’s Rush

Not so hot today Now four tabling rush poker;

Glad I scraped it back, although I was a bit bad letting it go that far down. Bluffs are failing completely and utterly on rush poker – there just seems to be too many calling stations. Of course that’s fine when you’re hitting hands, which is probably why yesterday’s graphs were so sweet – I was hitting a ton of stuff then. Today I had loads of small and medium pockets pairs, and loads of AKo hands, but almost none of them seemed to hit at all. On top of that everyone was mashing the pot button on the flop – it was hard folding so often, plus feeling nervous to cbet with the CS’s made it not the most pleasant of sessions.

During the return to zero part I modified my game so that my opening raises were completely ridiculous – all button steals were $0.20 minbets, speculative SC’s were minbets, broadways and big pairs were 3 to 5 big blinds. It seemed to be paying off as well – with minbet raises you don’t need that many to be successful to make a profit, and yet perversley *more* people seemed to fold to the minbet than to the 3bb button raises.

For the propbet, I’m still behind the starting line

but the fact that I was able to do 2k hands just today is amazing! Rakeback is just going to rocket up now, plus I might get some of the variance out of my game. Just got to avoid the tilt induced crashes that tend to come my way every now and again

One thing that’s funny is that on these Rush tables I’m now getting the redline of a multitable grinder;

I’ve *never* had a graph like that before, but is my game better or worse for it? A positive redline might be seen as a good thing, but then my game was always so swingy?! Maybe this is an indication of stability perhaps…

It might also be worth looking into the ironman promotion now as well.

Ridiculous

Another crushing session – no idea how this one happened, I wasn’t tilted this time, I was folding to raises. There were a bunch of flips (AK stuff) plus a few KK vs AA stuff, but down $50 in one session is too much.

Bankroll is down to $250. Only 5 buyins from having to move back to NL5. (update: just remembered $60 in another account. Bit more of a margin – guess that can pay S1ndr0me after he plays his next 6k hands…)

I’ve lost it completely now – down $18 this morning. Into negative figures for the $200 challenge, down more than $20 for the month. I’m even going to have to audit my accounts to see how many buy-ins I have left for NL10

I’m just going to do something else for the rest of the day. Tomorrow I don’t know. I might try satelliting into a big tourney, or possibly join S1ndr0me back at NL5 for a bit. No idea, don’t even want to think about it right now…
