Very frustrating session. The ‘Unexpected Value’ series of Stox videos has been talking about how most people (beginners) think the way to win at poker is with big hands, hitting flushes & coolering your opponent etc. while the real way is to consider your opponents hand more than your own (2nd level thinking I guess).
I know what that means, but I still find it difficult to suppress that frustration when nothing ever hits the flop. I think it’s mainly down to impatience – taking pots with cbets, check raises etc is obviously great, but it’s very annoying when after doing that for a bunch of hands, winning say, 50-80BB, and then losing it plus a whole load more because a ‘big hand’ goes wrong
So my session today was swingy, and overall not very good. The only thing that saved it was the last half hour or so when the poker gods completely turned around and gave me hand after hand. No subtleties needed, just get the money in good!
I ended up on three tables holding a stack of about 200-300bb on each. On one table two donors had already stormed off after being stacked a bit too much. So at least it was fun towards the end.
More HUD stuff – I know S1ndr0me was having trouble with keeping his screen clean with multiple tables and a hud, so I thought I’d show a screen shot with the new advanced hud I’ve got. Only four tables, but that’s all I ever play, plus I couldn’t get more than that on my laptop screen (so any more and they’re going to have to be stacked). Anyway, looks pretty tidy to me (the Pokerstars skin is a homemade one, but wasn’t that hard to do);
Update: Played a bit more, and pushed the win up to $24. Happy with that – it’s making the last bad session not so horrible

Nice HUD. Tell me what are all the numbers… lol I mean what stats are the numbers relative to?
It’s looks like something you’ve read/heard/watched lately has really paid off. well done m8.
I’ve been back to 6 max since last night. Going OK so far! but you know me
two rows of numbers – top row is;
VP$IP PFR ’3bet when not defending a steal’ ‘raised with previous callers’ ‘Attempts to steal’
2nd row is;
‘flop cbet%’ ‘fold flop cbet%’ ‘# times donk bets’ ‘turn cbet %’
(Annoyingly though cbet flop% seems to be broken)
and then some of them are coloured by certain thing, like;
‘fold flop cbet coloured by % times a player wins at showdown after raising postflop’ – like I have a clue what that’s about.
Then clicking on each line gives a lot of cool stuff broken down by position (ie fold/bet/raise on flop/turn/river, or VP$IP in ep/mp/lp etc).
I’m not bothering about using all of these numbers immediately, but gradually try to bring them in to my thoughts.
You were sounding really pissed off with the last couple of sessions – are you back to full stack too?
Yeah back to full stack for now. managed to recoup my losses in 1200 hands. Lol Playing way above my roll but hey thats kinda exciting.
When I redeposited $50 and decided to go with 10NL I was buying in with $6 – not too low to make winnings not worth it and not too high that a couple of suck-outs would ruin my bankroll. It wasn’t until my account reached $150 that I felt safe enough to buy in full.
That’s with 3-4 tabling. I dunno if 6 tabling would make a big difference (obv with buying in full, 6 tables = $60 which is a big chunk of the roll though!)
I started back buying in at $10 on a single table but have since throttled back to $5 on two. I’m reloading every round to get maximum value from that fiver.
Gotta say that something has clicked a bit or I’m just heating (thats jinxed it) but I’ve run back up to £116 over 1400 hands. LMAO the irony of it.
I’ll finish off the 10k hands of SSS later, maybe. theres only 1500 to go. I don’t think I’m gonna beat it much over 2/bb100.
Good to hear you’re on the way back.
We still should try a sweat session sometime – be interested how our styles vary (mine’s fairly obvious – I’m just plain lucky)
Yeah I’m up for that. I’ll leave gmail open 2morro and we can have a chat
